Brian Michael Carmody

Brian Michael Carmody, Sr. 82, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, husband of Linda (Lynn) Stuart Carmody, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

Brian was born January 24, 1936 in Munising, Michigan, the eldest son of the late Ronald J. Carmody and Ingrid Rundquist Carmody. A graduate of Munising High School, he excelled in track, holding the Upper Peninsula record in high hurdles. Upon graduation from Michigan State University, he became a Charleston resident employed at West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company and later at Charleston Rubber Company. Brian found great success in the real estate industry beginning with the Max Hill Company and First Coastal Properties before founding The Carmody Company. He ultimately partnered with the international firm of CB Richard Ellis, building a premier commercial real estate firm in the Charleston area, known as CBRE/Carmody, LLC.

Brian was a past president of The Hibernian Society of Charleston and a founding board member of The Hibernian Foundation. He was a founding director of the board of The Bank of Charleston, with his close friends O. L. Thompson and Arthur "Tino" Swanson. Brian was a founding board member of the reorganized Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. Throughout his life Brian helped to improve the lives of fellow Lowcountry residents through his service as a founding board member of Windwood Farm for Boys with his dear friend Jody Tamsberg; a past board member of the Coastal Carolina Council for the Boy Scouts of America, where he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award; a founding board member of The Center for Birds of Prey; and a past treasurer of the Roper Hospital Foundation. He also supported the Charleston Animal Society, Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic, Pet Helpers, Ducks Unlimited, Association for the Blind and East Cooper Meals on Wheels.

He was a past member of The Exchange Club of Charleston, and a current member of the Carolina Yacht Club, and Partridge Creek Gun Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda Stuart Carmody of Mt. Pleasant, his daughter, Cathleen M. Carmody of New York City, NY, sons Brian Michael Carmody, Jr. (Nancy) and Charles S. Carmody, Sr. (Mary Page) both of Mt. Pleasant, his brother, William W. Carmody (Molly) of Shelter Bay, MI, sisters, Bettina Carmody Graber of Munising, MI, and Karen Carmody Reitz of Auburn, CA. His five grandchildren include Charles Stuart Carmody, Jr., Ryan Page Carmody, William Daniel Carmody Garcia, Kenner Olivia Carmody and Holden Michael Carmody. Brian also leaves behind his cherished springer spaniel, Belle.

His memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until time of service and at a reception immediately following the service at The Hibernian Hall from 5-7pm. The Carmody family welcomes those unable to attend the memorial service to join them at The Hibernian Hall to celebrate Brian's life.
