Our dear and wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Brenda Sue Bobertz, sadly left us on September 13, 2022. Born in Warren, Arkansas in 1949, Brenda grew up in Fordyce, Arkansas. She graduated from Fordyce High School and attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she met her husband, the late John Edward Bobertz, Jr.
John and Brenda were married in 1969 and raised two children in Atlanta, Georgia: Jason and Christie. Brenda's home on Curlew Court was always open to neighbors and friends and her children's friends. Her southern sweet tea and her Italian gravy-learned from her in-laws in New Jersey-were always well received and quickly devoured, as was the pantry full of goods she kept on hand for her children and their ravenous friends. Brenda and John retired to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina in 1999, where they joined Dunes West Golf Club and met a new group of beloved friends and neighbors. Brenda was a regular attendee at bunko and birthday club events.
Brenda was famous in her family because she was rarely on time for any event, though she was always dressed in style, with her famous red hair done perfectly. She was a beloved "Gamma B," "Aunt B," or just plain "B" to her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and her children's friends, all of whom adored her. On the day she passed, Brenda required an ever-expanding array of photos of loved ones be gathered for display so they could be with her and provide her comfort.
Brenda was predeceased by her husband John and her parents, Raymond Arlen and Christine Ocille Phillips, together with her beloved sister, Roseanne Phillips. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Jason Michael Bobertz (Shannon), and their daughter Sarah; her daughter Angela Christie Finnegan and Christie's three daughters, Caitlyn, Colleen, and Charlotte (aka Charlie), her brother-in-law Edward Bobertz, her niece Meghan Bobertz (Jon), and her nephew Matthew Bobertz (Aurora); and her nephew Scotty Shivers (Susan).
A visitation will be held on Sunday September 18, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd, Mt. Pleasant, SC, immediately followed by a graveside service at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org/
