Brenda Lou Loyd Allred

Brenda Lou Loyd Allred was born on December 21st, 1937. On March the 12th of 2025, Brenda was called Home, at the age of 87. She passed peacefully in her Franke at Seaside residence, where she resided for the last 20 years.

Brenda was born and raised in Summerville, SC and attended College at Brenau University in Gainesville GA. Brenda had a lifelong career as a kindergarten teacher in the Maryland State school system. Brenda was passionate about teaching and made an everlasting impression on several of her students, some of whom have kept in touch after all these years. Brenda was an avid story writer. She has written a multitude of short stories about her childhood and her beloved Herman, “the lion with the slightly broken tail." Brenda enjoyed volunteering for ECCO delivering meals. Mrs. Allred was also a member of the Altar Guild at The Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Sullivan's Island and a Daughter of the King. Her favorite pastime involved anything that included her husband, Les.

Brenda met the love of her life while studying at Brenau. She met, Rome Georgia native, Lester Allred and the two were married shortly after graduating College in June of 1960. The two recently celebrated their 64th year of marriage this past summer. They resided in Maryland and spent summers vacationing at their family home on Isle of Palms. When they made the decision to retire, they relocated to Charleston and eventually moved to Franke, “which was the best decision we could have ever made”.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband Lester, their daughter Katherine, her parents Charles and Bessie Loyd and her sister Ann. Family that remains are loved and include many nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law.

For the last five years, Brenda was cared for by a longstanding friend of twenty years, Dorcas Rhodes. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dorcas and all of Brenda's caregivers from Humble Beginnings for many years of love and dedication.

The memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Cross (Anglican) on Sullivan's Island, on March 29th, 2025, at 2:00 pm. A reception will precede the celebration at the church at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations are made to ECCO in honor of Brenda.
