Bonnie Cowart Smith, 61, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Fleming David Smith entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 14, 2025. Her memorial service will be held Monday, August 25, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am.

Bonnie was born June 30, 1964, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Dewey Cowart and Patsy Thurman Cowart. Bonnie graduated from Gordon H. Garrett High School in 1982 and worked at the Department of Defense in the 315th Airlift Wing. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was known for her sense of humor. Bonnie loved the beach, and her favorite place to go was the Bahamas. Bonnie and David enjoyed many trips to the islands over the years, where they admired the clear blue water, went snorkeling, swam with pigs and dolphins, parasailed, and much more.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Fleming (David) Smith of Mount Pleasant, SC; mother, Patsy Cowart, of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister, Patti Spitz (Pete), of Mount Pleasant, SC; brother, Dewey (Lee) Cowart II (Joette), of Charleston, SC; two nephews, Phillip Spitz (Taylor) and Michael Spitz (Frani), all of Mount Pleasant, SC; two nieces, Kristyn Coleman (Clayton), of Charleston, SC and Dr. Ashlyn Spitz, of Mount Pleasant, SC; two stepsons, Mark E. Smith (Tania) and Matthew R. Smith; four step-grandchildren, and six great nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal charity of one's choice.
