Frederick Cluff Chase, BMC (USN Ret.), 88, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Katherine Neelon Chase, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell, with Full Military Honors, will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Frederick was born August 22, 1925 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, son of the late Warren O. Chase and Loydia M. Skibicki Chase. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, having achieved the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate. He served faithfully during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Frederick went on to serve as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department and the Newburyport Police Department. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Frederick was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Newburyport, MA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Katherine "Kathie" N. Chase; his son, Gregory Chase and his wife, Dene of Camarillo, CA; his grandchildren, Christopher and Jeffrey; his sister, Helen Craib and her husband, Bob of New Hampshire; and his three brothers, Joseph Chase and his wife, Zelma of TX, Edson Chase of NH, Donald Chase and his wife, Barbara of FL; . He was preceded in death by his son, Freddie who died in 1969 during the Vietnam War.
