Blanche Bobette Cohen, 95, of Charleston, SC, widow of the late Leo Perlitz, the late Mitch Seifstein, and the late Ronald Cohen entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 31, 2024. Her funeral service will be held graveside on Monday, September 2, 2024, in Emanu-El Cemetery (Maryville), Sycamore Avenue at 10:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Blanche was born October 15, 1928 in Cayce, South Carolina, daughter of the late Abe Louis Cohen and Corinne Krapf Cohen. She grew up in her beloved Charleston and was a product of Craft School and Business College. how she loved her Charleston, telling her children stories of her growing up Downtown walking with her friends to the park or Battery. On Saturdays, walking from synagogue to synagogue. Blanche worked at Triest & Shalk Insurance Agency, the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, and later V.A. Hospital as a social work services secretary for more than 23 years. Along with the V.A., she volunteered at Roper Hospital and was president, raising funds for the Lowcountry Epilepsy Association in her son's honor.
Her optimistic, loyal, and loving qualities meant that if she met you, you were a friend for life. Remaining friends with childhood friends and classmates, she would organize monthly lunches for her "Owlettes" group from Memminger High School. Blanche loved to dance, cook, and could always find a kinship with "The Crowd", with whom she was friends with for over 50 years. Summers in Eutawville, SC, for gatherings with her father's huge family and cousins eating around the family table with a mix of traditional Jewish and Southern foods.
Being a lover of nature, Blanche loved walking the beach, all animals, but her fondness fell upon dogs; they were treated as her babies and as royalty.
Blanche is survived by her children: Myron Perlitz (Sandra), Alan Perlitz (Valerie), Ben Seifstein, Adele Totzis (Bob), Mark Seifstein (Cindy), Mark Cohen, and Ken Cohen; sister-in-law, Phyllis Passink Cohen; eight grandchildren: Sarah Perlitz, Bradley Perlitz, Avery Cribbs (Tyler), Haley Rattray (Rajiv) Grayson Seifstein, Elliot Seifstein (Misty), Brian Seifstein, Sam Cohen, Ariel Cohen, Miranda Cohen, Flora Cohen, Yonah Cohen and Hanna Parker; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Barry Neil Perlitz; a brother, Harris Nathan Cohen; and a nephew, Paul Cohen.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her friends and caregivers, Iris Sharper and Sandra Wall.
