Bishop Victor M. Melendez, age 75, of Hanahan, SC, the husband of Zoraida Bas Melendez, passed on Thursday, June 26, 2014. His funeral service will be held in the World Harvest Community Church, 3441 West Montague Ave., Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, June 30, 2014, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in World Harvest Community Church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL.
Bishop Victor M. Melendez was born March 6, 1939 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Mario Melendez and the late Maria Luisa Ocasio. He was a missionary, an evangelist, the former pastor at El Faro Apostolico of North Charleston for 15 years, as well as a director of Spanish Ministries thru District of UPCI International. He was also a Spanish Director in South Carolina and a Points of Refuge counselor, as well as an associate with the North Charleston Police Department and a detention center chaplain.
He is survived by his wife, Zoriada Bas Melendez; daughter, Shirley Marquez of NY; two brothers, Mario Melendez and Ramon Vargas; four sisters: Ada Garcia, Carmen Broyles, Ana Vangas and Carmen Rivera; two grandchildren, Christina Goddard and Rachel Marquez; two great-grandchildren, Eli James Goddard and Analise Goddard; and twelve nieces and nephews, as well as the family pet, Chippo.
