Billy Gene Burgess

Billy Gene Burgess, 81, of Crestview, Florida, formerly of Alabama, husband of the late Evelyn Poulos Burgess died Thursday, October 11, 2018. His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 19, 2018 in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 10:00 until time of the service.

Billy was born August 17, 1937 in Benoit, Mississippi, one of thirteen children of the late Elbert Burgess and the late Lessie Lee Burgess. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service including a tour in Vietnam.

He is survived by four sons, Michael Burgess and his wife Rhonda of Pendergrass, GA, Rick Burgess and his wife Wanda of Moncks Corner, SC, Ronald Burgess and his wife Amy of Moncks Corner, SC, and Bryan Burgess and his wife Misty of Hayti, MO; one daughter, Brenda Crane and her husband Travis of Crestview, FL; sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; five brothers, Mickey Burgess and his wife Marie of Yankeetown, FL, Larry Burgess and his wife Cheryl of Tavares, FL, Roger Burgess and his wife Barbara of Gainesville, GA, Jimmy Burgess of Suwanee, GA, Stanley Burgess and his wife Marlene of Buford, GA; five sisters, Winnie Green and her husband Gerald of Warner Robins, GA, Linda McNeal and her husband Gene of Palatka, FL, Deborah Porter and her companion Rick Williams of Cleveland, TN, Mary Burgess of Cleveland, TN and Ellen Starling and her husband Eric of Maylene, AL; sister in law, Joyce Burgess of Warner Robins, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Burgess and brothers, Vernon Burgess and Jesse Burgess.
