Billie Dee Gilreath, 92, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, World War II veteran, husband of the late Pauline Fuller Gilreath died Saturday, June 18, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday an hour prior to the service.
Billie was born January 12, 1924 in Piedmont, SC, son of the late Willie O.K. Gilreath and Edith Hughey Gilreath. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 4, 1943 to December 30, 1945. Billie retired after 35 years with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge with 65 years of service, followed by Scottish Rite, then was part of the Mount Pleasant Shriners Club. Billie was a charter member of Cooper River Baptist Church and most recently attended Lake Marion Baptist Church. He and his wife visited 49 states and Canada during his retirement and Billie continued to enjoy traveling and taking cruises.
He is survived by children, Angel Groose of Charleston, SC and Rick Gilreath, wife Sally, of Mount Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren, Wendy, Douglas, Christoper, Roxanne, Justin, David, Randy, Sarah, and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Sean, Josh, Triston, Tyler, Harrison, Bradon, and Natalie; great-great-granddaughter, Madilynn; brother, Douglas Gilreath of Greenwood, SC; sister, Patricia Gilreath of Summerville, SC.
In addition to his beloved wife of 68 years, Pauline, he was preceded in death by their son, J. Rodney Gilreath, and six of his siblings.
