Billie Joe Eldridge, 75, of Cottageville, SC, husband of Una Joyce Eldridge, entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 18, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will be held in Redwine, KY.
Billie Joe was born June 21, 1938 in West Liberty, KY, one of six children of John E. Eldridge and Mattie Lewis Eldridge. Billie Joe was an Army veteran, completed ground training and jumping from an aircraft in flight and was rated as a qualified parachutist in 1958 in Fort Campbell, KY. He was a former rigger and welder at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and received several awards. Billie Joe was a member of the American Legion. He owned and operated Goliath Antique store in Charleston. He and his wife played bluegrass music for numerous charities, the first Spoleto festival and political dignitaries.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Eldridge of Cottageville, SC; son, Basil Eldridge (Belinda) of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Lechia Oliver (Dan) of McDonough, GA; son, Billie Eldridge II of Cottageville, SC; grandchildren: Shane Michael Eldridge, Amanda Katherine Eldridge, Tanya Reneé Connolly, Daniel Allan Oliver II, Christopher Brant; great-grandchildren: Haley Reneé Connolly, Ryan Scott Connolly, Logan Ray Eldridge Hasty, Camden Michael Williams, Cooper Reed Williams, Elena Rosa Eldridge, Gavin Brant; and brother, Clyde Eldridge of OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
