Beverly Hitchcock Moore

June 5, 1942 — June 22, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 22, 2010, Beverly Hitchcock Moore, wife of Jackson Hutchinson Moore.  Residence, Mt. Pleasant, SC.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Hutchinson Moore are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter Saturday, June 26, 2010 at eleven o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends, Saturday morning from ten-fifteen until time of service at the Chapel.


Mrs. Moore was born June 5, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Wendell James Hitchcock and Marion Ditty Hitchcock. She was a member of The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul. She was a graduate of Duke University and received her Master's Degree from Catholic University, Washington, DC and additional graduate study at The Citadel.  She was instrumental in developing the Burn Unit at MUSC in Charleston in the late 1970's.  Later, she was a respected faculty member at The Baptist College of South Carolina (Charleston Southern University) as the director of the Nursing Program.  She left nursing to work with her husband of Moore Drums, Inc., where she supervised the office and administrative functions and served as Chief Financial Officer.  She worked tirelessly as a board member of the National Barrel and Drum Association (later renamed Reusable Industrial Packaging Association), and received the Association's highest honor, the Morris Hershson Award of Merit in 2000.


She is survived by her husband of 38 years of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two step children: Jackson H. Moore, Jr. (Elsa) and Cynthia Moore Denning (Jim); three grandchildren: Sandra Zapp (Julian), Carolyn Moore, and Michael Krueger; one great grandson, Jackson Tyler Zapp.  She will be missed by her brother-in-law, George Lodge (Barbara) and nieces and nephews, Lynne, Steve, Tracy and Sharon.  She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Lodge.
