Beverly Robinson Hooks

Beverly Robinson Hooks, 93, widow of Virgil Travis Hooks passed on Thursday, May 3, 2018. The family will greet friends at her visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, May 5, 2018 at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 6, 2018 in Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 712 Wappoo Road. Beverly will be laid to rest next to her husband, Travis, and parents at Live Oak Memorial Gardens immediately following the Service.

Beverly was born on May 13, 1924 in Teaneck, NJ, the beloved daughter of the late George Stephen and Beatrice Leona Winchell and grew up in Charleston. Beverly took great pride being a member of the first graduating class of Saint Andrew's High School. She met the love of her life, Virgil Travis Hooks, at a USO dance in Charleston, where he was stationed, and were married on August 16, 1942 in Muskogee, OK. From that union of 58 years, four children were born. She was a loving daughter, sister, teacher, homemaker, wife, best friend, confidant, mother, grandmother, great grandmother.

Beverly was a lifelong member of Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church. For 37 years she served as a Kindergarten teacher and Director of the Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Weekday School. It was not unusual in later years for her to be approached by former students with Hi, Ms. Hooks, do you remember me?, much to her amusement. It was question to which she always answered, Why of course I do."

Her hobbies included reading, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She formed a group of ladies from her Church and they knitted crosses for soldiers serving in Iraq that would be worn inside their helmets.

She leaves behind to celebrate her memory, her sister, Kay Robinson Weeks (Duncan), her children; David DeWitt Hooks, Kathryn Susan Hooks Kirkley (Al Styles), Travis Andrew Hooks and Carol Christine Hooks Pugliese (Roger), her grandchildren; Kelly Hartsell Fox, Kristie Kirby Hooks, Kerri Ann Kirkley Taylor (Casey), Jesse Taylor Self (Alisha), Sarah Ann Hooks Meeks (Jonathon), Andrew Stephen Hooks, Joshua Alexander Pugliese, and Fisher Stephen Pugliese, Her great grandchildren; Kayla, Nicholas, Gillian, Mabry, Ashton, Wyatt, Rebecca and Deacon. She was predeceased by her husband, Travis and two great grandchildren, Chelsea and Marcus Hunter.She was predeceased by her husband, Travis and two great grandchildren, Chelsea and Marcus Hunter.
