Betty Young Segal

Betty Young Segal, a longtime resident of Columbia and Charleston SC, passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2022 at the age of 85 at her home in Mount Pleasant.
    
Betty will be missed and remembered by her siblings, Ellen Helman and Robert Young; her children Amy Segal-Walsh and Bruce Segal; and her grandchildren Ronni Walsh, Heather Walsh, and Paul Segal. She is predeceased by her former husband Ronald Segal; her longtime companion Michael Garvey; and her sons Lyle Segal and Glen Segal. 
    
Betty was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 21st 1936 to Sarah and Herbert Young. She moved to Columbia SC at age 12, where she later met her husband and father of her children, Ronnie.   Betty was an executive assistant at Bobbin International,  where she played an integral role in the formation of Ronald Segal’s publication and textile exposition.  
    
Betty was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, companion, and friend.  Betty was very well traveled, loved to paint, cook, and care for her beloved Yorkshire terriers. Betty contributed generously to Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, who’s mission was very close to her heart. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, furry friends, and all that knew her. 

Her graveside funeral service is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, October 9th 2022 at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd.  Arrangement by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
