Betty Caroline Fort Rowell

Betty Caroline Fort Rowell, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late C. Bryan Rowell, passed on from this world to her heavenly home on November 15, 2022.
Betty was born August 5, 1932, in McClellanville, SC, daughter of the late James Walton Fort and the late Carrie Chrosia Baltzegar Fort.  Betty was a graduate of McClellanville High School.
In 1951, Betty married Bryan Rowell of Horry County.  They were married at McClellanville Baptist Church by Rev. Needham Blanton, who was also Bryan’s uncle.

After they were married, Betty and Bryan settled on Sullivan’s Island, SC where they raised their four children.  She was a resident of Sullivan’s Island for 31 years before moving to Mount Pleasant.

Betty worked with her husband Bryan in their family businesses, Rowell’s Variety Store on Sullivan’s Island and Montgomery and Rowell building material business in Mount Pleasant.  Additionally, she kept a spotless house, and cooked great Southern style meals, especially Sunday dinner with the family!  She always made sure that everyone was cared for and well-fed.

Betty was a quiet woman of virtue who demonstrated faithfulness and loyalty to God, her family, and Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church.  She was also a long-time volunteer with Gideons International in their mission to make Bibles available to any person who would receive one.

Betty’s husband Bryan Rowell and her daughter Linda Zorn predeceased her as well as her sister Almeta Fogle of McClellanville, brother Robert Fort of Orangeburg, brother David Fort of McClellanville, sister Beulah Green of Mt. Pleasant, brother James Walton Fort Jr. of McClellanville, and brother Leroy Fort of Bamberg.  Surviving her are her son-in-law Bill Zorn of Alameda, CA, sons Jennings (Debbie) of Lexington, David (Renée) of Elgin, and daughter Caroline Miller (Mike) of Athens, Greece. Surviving grandchildren are Christopher Zorn (Danielle) of Alameda, CA, Nathan Zorn (Kally) of Charleston, Shelli Powell (Guian) of Phoenix, AZ, Kristen Davis (Stephen) of Gilbert, Lauren Fisher (Stephen) of Lexington, Micah Rowell (Katie) of Austin, TX, Daniel Rowell (Claire) of Nashville TN, Silas Miller of Columbia, Jared Miller of Charleston, and Ella Miller of Athens, Greece and six great-grandchildren.
Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
