Mrs. Betty Jane Roth passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in North Charleston, SC. A longtime resident of Charleston, she was born May 24, 1932 in Vernon County, WI to the late Norma Vangen Volden and Norman Volden. She was a 1950 graduate of Westby High School, Westby, WI. Mrs. Roth was the widow of the late Theodore Roth whom she married in 1959. She worked for many years as a ladies wear retail clerk, lastly at Condon's in West Ashley. After she retired, Betty volunteered her time in the gift shop at Charles Towne Landing where her service was greatly appreciated. As a resident of White Oak Manor for several years, she was known for her kind and gentle spirit, her smiling face and her enjoyment of playing bingo and participating in craft activities. She also greatly enjoyed the ministers, church groups, and individuals who visited the nursing home. A memorial service will be held at White Oak Manor on September 2, 2012 at 10:00 am. Betty is survived by her son, Burt M. Roth (Cindy) of Ridgeville, SC; her daughter, Sheila R. Dorsey (Wade) of Blythewood, SC; sisters, Olive "Ollie" Perry of Shawano, WI and Catherine "Kitty" Rogers of Westby, WI; four grandchildren: Courtney Maynard, Jonathan Roth, Cassie Roth and Sarah Mariah Dorsey; three great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Roth; daughter, Angela Bessie Roth; brothers, Eugene "Gene" Volden and Harold Volden; sisters: Jane Volden, Mae Rude, Janice "Jan" Overgaard and Hazel Larson. Her family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at White Oak Manor of Charleston for their love and care of Betty. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
