Betty D. Rice

Betty Dunlap Rice, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, SC and formerly of North Myrtle Beach, SC, died peacefully on April 11, 2015, at East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant. Betty was a beautiful lady who loved everyone and handled life with grace and dignity.

Betty was born on February 5, 1926, to the late Lorene Mayfield Dunlap and Joseph Fred Dunlap. She married Don D. Rice, Jr., on May 26, 1945, in Anderson, SC. Betty and Don worked and lived in the Carolinas, retiring to Cherry Grove, North Myrtle Beach, SC. The Rices were active members of First Baptist Church in North Myrtle Beach for many years.

"Bett", as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren, is survived by her husband and sweetheart of almost 70 years Don D. Rice, Jr., of The Palms, Mt Pleasant, SC. Bett is also survived by her daughter Ann Rice Phillips (Don) of Newnan, GA; her sons Don D. Rice III of Matthews, NC (the late Becky Rice) and Joseph F. Rice (Lisa) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Laura Phillips Murphy (Jack), Charleston, SC; David Phillips (Val) Atlanta, GA; Stephen Phillips (Katie), Raleigh, NC; Ann E. Rice Ervin (Tucker), Mt. Pleasant, SC; Caroline Rice, Charleston, SC; and her two great grandsons, Finn Murphy and Andy Phillips. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Dunlap (Peggy) of Anderson, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the beginning of the service. Entombment will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 2609 US 29, Anderson, SC 29621.
