Betty Jean Sowers Pierce, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of James "Jim" Porter Pierce entered into eternal rest Monday, February 13, 2023. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, in the East Cooper Baptist Church,
361 Egypt Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Betty was born September 9, 1931, in Crowville, Louisiana, daughter of the late Samuel Otis Sowers and the late Ruth Jordan Sowers. She graduated from Louisiana Baptist College and went on to teach 6th grade in Lake Charles, LA. Betty was a founding member of the East Cooper Baptist Church, where she was active member, taught Sunday school, worked with senior adults and served in the community with her group. She will be remembered for the way she loved God and her family.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jim Pierce; three sons, Jim Pierce (Denise) of Little Rock, AR, Jeff Pierce of Charleston, and John Pierce (Kelly) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Janis Pierce of Purcellville, VA; two grandchildren, Dr. Abigail Pierce (Paul) of Exeter, NH and Taylor Pierce (Caroline) of Woodstock, GA; two step grandchildren, Colton Bingham (Taylor) and Blake Bingham; three great grandchildren, Abigail, LiLeigh and Ada; and two sisters, Sherril Mancil and Vellie Helfaer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; grandchild, Samuel Pierce; and brothers in law, Phil Helfaer, Frank Mancil, Malcolm Pierce and Alfred Cotrill and sister in law Phyllis Pierce.
