Betty Jean Whatley, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 13, 2026. Her graveside service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd, Charleston, SC at 11:00 am.

Jean was born September 17, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Lee Porter and the late Eula Mae Davis Porter.

Jean was a devoted wife of over 72 years to her late husband Robert (Bob), who adored her with his every breath. She was a wonderful and incredible wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Jean was sweet and kind and absolutely beautiful inside and out. Her family was her everything and she made her house our home, the family meeting place. Bob and Jean’s house was the best place in the world and to experience how special it was, you had to cherish it for yourself.

She was our heart and is survived by her son and daughter-in law (Robert and Susan) and two daughters (Robin and Wanda “Darlene”) and sons-in-law (Ed and Tommy), 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and joy in her life. She will be fondly remembered for her deep love and devotion of her children, grandchildren, her sister Sandra, and nieces and nephews. She will be profoundly and forever missed, and her legacy of kindness and love will continue in the lives of her family.
