Betty Brownlee was born April 21, 1932 in Charleston, SC. She was one of eleven children to the late Charles Brownlee and Julia Wiggins Brownlee. Betty's years growing up on Pinckney street provided lifelong memories of a close family that survived the hardships of the Great Depression. She was the last surviving member. Inspired by this circumstance, Betty embraced the profound meaning of family, faith, self-reliance, and resourcefulness. She lived her life dedicated to these qualities as an example to her children, eleven grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her work career was spent with the Charleston Naval Shipyard Federal Credit Union. Betty enjoyed the friendships of her co-workers, active and retired, over many years. Betty often exhibited a spirit of independence, self-sacrifice, and energetic accomplishment.

She was a skilled seamstress and an exceptional cook. She liked staying busy, never leaving chores undone, or bills unpaid. Betty was a loving person who made everyone around her comfortable. Her Sunday family dinners were a tradition not to be missed. Her abilities as a Southern cook who made every serving delicious and plentiful were held in such regard that friends and extended family cherished being invited. Her payment for her Sunday feast was a contented smile or just a simple "Thank you. " It was her proudest moment. Betty attended Northbridge Baptist Church and found peace in her Christian faith and her complete trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her children, Bobby "Larry" Henderson, Karl R. "Rusty" Henderson (Jo); Amanda McQueeney (Tommy), Julie H. Lane (Scott).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407.
