Bette Gibson, 70, of Hanahan, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on February 20th after years of living courageously with the degenerative nervous system disease ALS.
Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 at J. Henry Stuhr’s Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC at 3:00 pm. The family will receive family and friends at the Chapel from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Bette is survived by her loving husband and caregiver James “Jim” Case; daughter Kim Nelson, PhD; son, Kyle Gibson; daughter-in-law Holly Cater; granddaughter Cater Nelson; three sisters, Carole Green, Judy Pitts, Patty McCombs; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Bette was born February 10, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Reynolds Joseph Henderson and Ola Isabelle Connor Henderson. She attended Webster Groves High School and majored in English at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Bette fell in love with the South and settled in the Charleston area in 1982 where she raised her children and began a long, successful career in sales and marketing, primarily in retail. Bette was known for her love of the arts, especially theater and music. She was a member of the Charleston Symphony Singers Guild and was a cast member of the Dock Street Theater’s Quilters musical. In retirement Bette found joy assisting with nationally touring musicals at the Performing Arts Center and volunteering with the Alzheimer's Association.
Bette was best known for her positive and loving spirit. Extending a gentle hand and listening ear, she provided optimistic support to friends and strangers alike. She lived an open-minded and compassionate life, always seeing and bringing out the best in others.
