Bette B. R. Bush, 84, of Isle of Palms, wife of the late Julian Bush, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, in a local nursing home. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 in the Church of the Holy Cross "Historic Church", 2520 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC at 4:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Mrs. Bush was born December 12, 1928, in Greenville, daughter of Harry O. Bain and Clara Bain. She graduated from Furman University and Marshall Pickens Tech College and worked as a nurse. She and her husband resided for a time in New York City, where she wrote articles for a Long Island newspaper. When Mr. Bush retired, they moved to Charleston. Mrs. Bush was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Roe Mason, and son-in-law David Mason; her son Phillip Stradley Roe; her son Thomas Anderson Roe III and daughter-in-law Tracy Roe; her daughter-in-law Serena Roe; her stepdaughter Kathryn Debra Rucker and son-in-law Steven Mark Rucker; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Tanner. She was preceded in death by one son, John Verner Roe; her husband, Julian Bush; and her brother, Harry Overton Bain.
