Bernard P. Mendelson, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Nancy Needle Mendelson entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 8, 2019. His funeral service will be held graveside Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Emanu-El Cemetery (Maryville), Sycamore Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Bernard was born January 2, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Isadore Mendelson and Lillian Mankin Mendelson. He was a graduate of the College of Charleston, Emory Dental School and the University of Chicago School of Orthodontics. Bernard was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El and very active in the Jewish community.

He is survived by his daughter, Marsha Mendelson Alterman (Douglas) of Charleston, SC; son, Steven Mendelson (Stephanie) of Asheville, NC; and four grandchildren: Lily, Rosie, Ethan and Abby.

As an orthodontist in the community, he was responsible for many beautiful smiles. In keeping with his generous spirit, memorials may be made to the Nancy Mendelson Best Friends Fund at the Coastal Community Foundation, 635 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.
