Bennie Anthony Slay, III, 61, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Pamela Courtney Slay, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 4, 2026. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Johns Island Presbyterian Churchyard.
Bennie was born May 25, 1964 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Bennie Anthony Slay, Jr. and Carolyn Elizabeth Hayes Slay. Ben was a skilled trim carpenter, creating cabinets, mantels, and working in historic homes in downtown Charleston. Later even having his own handyman business. A founding member of the Full Moon Bus Club, and had the '64 Split window lifted Volkswagen bus in a bold red and black, and was in local parades. He made friends everywhere, and if he saw someone broken down on the side of the road, he would stop and help, also being the mechanic that could fix anything.
He is survived by his parents, Bennie Slay, Jr., Carolyn Hayes Slay; his wife, Pamela Courtney Slay; daughter Courtney Slay; stepson, Cj Filyaw (Killaney); grandson, David Allan Slay; and grandchildren Tye, Destinee, Kayleigh, and Kyle Filyaw; and his fur baby cats, Tiki, Chrissy and his special pup, Billy.
He was preceded in death by his Brother Nathaniel Allan Slay.
Memorials may be made to Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary or American Diabetes Association/">American Diabetes Association in Ben’s Honor.
