Benjamin Aldret Albrecht

Benjamin Aldret Albrecht of Mount Pleasant, husband of Marianne Willard Albrecht, passed away unexpectedly on Palm Sunday, surrounded by family.

Ben, son of the late Herman and Eloise Van Ness Albrecht, was born on December 21, 1941, in Charleston. He graduated from Moultrie High School and attended Newberry College before enlisting in the Coast Guard. He managed his father-in-law’s business, Willard Hardware, for several years before returning to his family’s business, Southern Lumber and Millwork Corporation, from which he retired in 2007. 

Ben was an avid hunter and sportfisherman. He spent much of his free time in the woods, on local rivers and the Atlantic. The Lowcountry was truly his back door. Many hours were spent with friends at hunting clubs, cruising the waterway, and fishing aboard the “Southern Miss”.

A lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ben also served on the Lutheran Homes of SC Board and the Lutheran Homes of SC Foundation. He was a member of the Arion Society, Etiwan Masonic Lodge, and a former member of Elks Lodge #242 BPOE. 

Ben is survived by his wife of 59 years; his children, Beth Dodds (David) and Ben Albrecht, Jr. (Sheila); his sister, Joye Shuler (Hubert) all of Mt. Pleasant; and his loving  granddaughters, Maribeth Dodds (fiancé - Grier Luxmore), Kathryn McIntosh (Kipper); Ansley Albrecht, and Kacie Albrecht also of Mt. Pleasant, along with many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy and Herman Albrecht, and his sister-in-law, Helen Albrecht.

Visitation will be held for family and friends Friday, March 29, 2024 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. A private burial will take place on Saturday at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Monday, April 1, 2024 in Franke at Seaside’s Rodenberg Chapel, at 10:30 am with a reception to follow in the Burgess Center.
