Capt. Barry Jackson Wilson, 77, of Awendaw, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012. The relatives and friends of Barry Wilson are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 in Ocean Grove United Methodist Church, 6517 Hwy 17 N, Awendaw, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Capt. Barry was born on September 13, 1934 in Florence, South Carolina, son of the late Clyde Lawrence Wilson, Sr. and Florence Eugenia Mills Wilson. He served in the United States Naval Reserve, the Air Force ROTC and had his US Coast Guard Master's License. He was a long time fisherman and was well respected among his peers on Shem Creek. He owned and operated numerous commercial fishing vessels to include the Speedball, Lady Essie, Grey Ghost and the Flying Cloud. He worked for Patriots Point as captain of the cutter, "Comanche" before retiring. He was also a member of Ocean Grove United Methodist Church in Awendaw, Etiwan Lodge #95, York Rite and the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club.
He is survived by his loving daughter Helen Wilson Kroll and her husband, Craig, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a sister, Lillian W. Toler of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two grandchildren, Dillon Lewis Kroll and Alexis Leigh Isla Kroll of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde L. Wilson, George B. Wilson, H. Mills Wilson and Alvin A. Wilson.
