Barbel “Babette” Annemarie Huesken was born June 2, 1940, in Berlin, Germany and gracefully departed her earthly body on September 25, 2024. A devoted mother and cherished friend, Babette’s vibrant spirit touched the lives of many throughout her journey. She was a member of the South Bay Independent Living Community and was also an active member in a book club that she loved.
Babette embarked on her academic pursuits at the Humboldt University in Berlin and lived her young adult years in London and Paris. Visiting a museum with her was like touring with a historian because of her vast knowledge of Egyptian antiquities, European history and art.
Babette was dearly loved by her daughter Karen Hyde, her son-in-law Billy Hyde, and her grandchildren, Carson and Caroline. She loved her extended family - Mike, Melissa, Blake, Mason and Bryce Bernard. She is also survived by her daughter Lori Peterson.
Babette joins her beloved parents, Walter and Herta Bonnke and the love of her life and husband, Horst Huesken, in eternal rest.
A Gathering of Friends, celebrating Babette's life will be held at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC, on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather as they reflect on the beautiful life Babette lived and the lasting impact she made in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honor of her vivid spirit and zest for life, attendees are encouraged to refrain from wearing dark funeral attire.
