A memorial service for Barbara Jennings Zobel, (formerly of Georgetown) widow of the late Harold Earle Zobel, will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Mrs. Zobel passed away on May 24, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, SC. Born in Lake City, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Virginia Courtney Jennings. She received an associate degree in Business from Winthrop College (now Winthrop University). Prior to her marriage, she was the personal secretary to US Senator Strom Thurmond and later retired from Georgetown Steel after 28 years as Executive Secretary.

She met and married the love of her life in 1960, and they had 49 wonderful years together until Mr. Zobel’s death in 2009. They lived in Georgetown their entire married life, and she remained there until 2015 when she moved to Mount Pleasant to be near her daughter and her family.

Mrs. Zobel was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class. Service to her church included Membership Secretary, Secretary of the Board of Stewards, Chairperson of Communion, Co-Chair of Flower Committee, and Wedding Director. She also served on the Worship Commission of the SC Methodist Annual Conference. In addition to her church, Mrs. Zobel served as a volunteer at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

During her years at Franke at Seaside she volunteered on various committees and served on the Altar Guild of the Chapel.

Mrs. Zobel is survived by her beloved daughter, Barbie Zobel Kirwin (Dennis); two granddaughters: Courtney Kirwin Stone (Chilton) and Hyatt Kirwin Williams (Sullivan); a grandson, Patrick Kirwin; five adored great grandchildren: Collins Lee Stone, Robert Chilton (Rowe) Stone, Jr., Blaine Harper Williams, Leighton James Williams, Smith Jennings Stone, and a sixth on the way, all of Mount Pleasant; a 1st Cousin, Rushelle Courtney Mason of San Antonio, TX; brother- in-law, Julius Hyatt (Buddy) Zobel, Jr. of Mount Pleasant (Joanne); three nieces and their husbands; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Capital Projects Fund of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 901 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 or to a charity of one's choice.
