Barbara J. Steen, a loving wife of 53 years to Pastor Fred Steen of Sheridan Hills Baptist Church in Hollywood, FL. passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017. Barbara was born to Larry and Katie Erwin of Greenville, SC on July 23, 1941. Her younger brother, Lester Erwin and wife Rita Erwin, live in Easley, SC. She is a graduate of Carson Newman College and alumnus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She was a career homemaker, a Christian leader, and school teacher throughout the SE United States. She retired from Sheridan Hills Christian School in 2014.

Barbara loved and was loved by her friends and family. She was always ready to share a story about her sons and grandsons; they were the joy of her life. Bryan & Jaime Steen with their sons, Zach & Brandon Steen of Charleston South Carolina, and Nathan & Melanie Steen of Orlando, FL.
Barbara was loved by all who knew her. She was a gifted teacher, both of children and adults. Her gentle spirit and quiet calmness drew people to her. Over the years, Barbara was a mentor to many through her love of women's ministry.

Barbara valiantly battled many health issues over the years. She was a prayer warrior and never waivered in her faith. Her love of Jesus, and her passion for people to know him was contagious. Her wisdom came from a life of looking to Jesus and living in his word. Barbara's life was a testimony to the verse, " Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth!" (Psalm 46:10). She showed us how to glorify and exalt the Lord. Praise be to God! Barbara is healed!

Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC,. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of the service.
