Barbara Bush Rogers, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, loving wife of Lawton Rogers, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, 681 McCants Drive at 11:00 am followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Barbara was born December 6, 1937, in Peoria, Illinois, daughter of the late Col. Frank Avery Bush and the late Harriette Dadant Bush. She was a 1955 graduate of Fayetteville High School, a 1959 graduate of the University of North Carolina, and member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Growing up an Army Brat, Barbara believed in God and country. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and was instrumental in establishing an Intercessory Prayer Ministry at two churches. Barbara was a mentor to teenage girls and young married women through teaching Sunday school and leading Bible studies. She was known for her kindness and gentleness of spirit, as well as her sweet smile that could light up a room. She will be remembered as someone who always put God first, others second, and herself last.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lawton Rogers of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, David L. Rogers (Norma) of Clayton, GA, and William P. Rogers (Jeannie) of Los Angeles, CA; two daughters, Diana Rogers Malley (Bill) of Mt. Pleasant, and Laurin Wright-Kier (Jenn) of Summerville, SC; eleven grandchildren, Jon Shokes (Lindsey), Charles Shokes (Belle), Casey Malley(Austen), Jacob Malley (Caroline), Grace Rogers, Rachael Edwards (Charlie), Nicholas Kier (Meredith), Megan Kier (Cain), Taylor Rogers (Staci), Cory Rogers (Eka), Blake Rogers(Callie); and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers.
