Barbara Crowder Gwyn

Barbara Crowder Gwyn, age 79 passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022, at her home on the Isle of Palms, SC. She was survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Hugh S. Gwyn. She was also survived by brothers, Alvin E. Crowder (Linda) of Marion, VA, and Jon D. Crowder (Carol) of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving are one son, Hugh Stephen Gwyn, Jr. (Mary) of Lexington, SC and one daughter, Elizabeth Gwyn Jones (Glenn) of Huntersville, NC. Barbara dearly loved her 3 grandchildren - Nathaniel E. Jones, Hugh Andrews (Andy) Gwyn and Nicholas J. Jones.

Barbara graduated from Marion Senior High School (Virginia) in 1960 and went on to get a degree from Madison College in 1964 which is now known as James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Soon after graduating from Madison College, Barbara got a teaching job in Bristol, VA and married her High School sweetheart - Hugh Gwyn. Barbara loved music and was an outstanding clarinet player for the Marion Senior High Band under the direction of Mr. Azzara. She was also an active member of the choir for many years at Marion Baptist Church in Marion, VA. She was also an active member of the hand bell choir at Marion Baptist Church.  Barbara was also a member of the sanctuary choir and handbell choir at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Barbara was also an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and enjoyed it so much when beloved broadcaster Vin Scully would announce "It's Time for Dodger Baseball." Barbara was a very special person to everyone who knew her!

Her celebration of life will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery, Marion, VA.
