Barbara Jean Avant Fort, 87, of Ladson, South Carolina, widow of Daniel Marion Fort, Sr., entered into eternal rest, Saturday, September 7, 2024. Her Funeral Service will be held, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1:00pm in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.
Barbara was born September 8, 1936 in Conway, South Carolina, daughter of the late Arthur W. Avant, Sr. and the late Lucille Altman Avant. Barbara was a retired Insurance Agent with State Farm. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, camping and traveling. Mostly she loved spending time and living life through her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children; Donna Fort Moynihan of Summerville, Dan Fort and wife Lee of Charleston, Darryl Fort of Plano, Texas; grandchildren; Kelly Moynihan Rowe and husband Jon, Devin Moynihan, Danielle Fort, Cortnie Fort Smalley and husband Kyle, Meghan Fort Moser and husband Kyle, Kaitlyn Fort Chase and husband Jordan, and David Brandt; great grandchildren; Daimon Talbott, Aussie Talbott, Khloe Johnson, Liam McIntosh, and Hunter Smalley; siblings; Art W. Avant, Jr. of Hahira, GA, Rayford Avant and wife Ann of North Charleston and Patricia Avant Gadberry of Tampa, FL; and many loved nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, parents, two sisters and one brother; Sylvia Faye Avant Smith, Peggy Avant Shaw and Mark Avant.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Shelly Shand, MD and Lisa Smith, NP and all the staff at Charleston Oncology for the great care and love provided as well as a special thanks to the staff of Interim Hospice for their love and support.
