August “Gus” Thomas Rossi, 88, entered eternal rest on Monday, October 28, 2024 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Gus Rossi was born on April 26, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. The first son of Thomas and Grace Rossi, he lived most of his life in Calumet City, Illinois and worked for Jays Potato Chips as a route salesman for 43 years until he retired in 2001. Gus was a longtime board member and coach for the Calumet City Civic League and was an active member of the Catholic Church. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Holly Rossi (d. 2022) for 62 years. Gus was also a cherished brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his brother, Jack Rossi; his three children, Bill Rossi and his wife Kathy, Ron Rossi and his wife Barb, and Lynn Rossi Winn and her husband Jeff; grandchildren Kevin, Matt (Kait), David (Katy), Kristen (Jack), Samantha, Nic, Stephen and Sydney; and great-grandchildren Kelly, Wes, Tyler, Reid and Ada.
Gus spent many days on the sidelines coaching youth football, basketball and baseball both in Calumet City and South Carolina. An avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, Gus was almost always spotted in his favorite team gear. He loved to host tailgate parties or enjoy dinners with his friends and family. Gus enjoyed traveling the world, and he loved to celebrate his family’s successes and achievements. He would proudly share those stories with anyone he met.
A private service for family is being planned. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Gus’ love for youth sports, the family asks for donations to a favorite youth sports league of your choice.
A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
