August John Marjenhoff, Ph.D., 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Karen Hansen Marjenhoff entered into eternal rest Monday, November 9, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 12 , 2015 in St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street at 11:00 a.m. The interment service will be held in Bethany Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
August was born March 9, 1926 in Charleston, SC, son of the late August John Rudolph Marjenhoff and Dora Eye Marjenhoff. At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from the High School of Charleston in 1943. He served in the Pacific on the U.S.S Chafee, a destroyer escort. He completed his undergraduate study at Duke University in 1951 and was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kapa. He received his MBA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1962, and received his Doctorate degree from Indiana University in 1974. August was a retired professor of Economics and Finance from The Citadel and served as an Adjutant Professor at Limestone College and Webster University. He retired from teaching in March 2015. He was a Veteran of WWII and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as Captain. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association and St. Michael's Church, where he sang in the choir for 52 years. He was a loving husband, an adoring father and grandfather who loved teaching, gardening, the stock market, music and worshipping the Lord in St. Michael's Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Marjenhoff; two daughters: Julie M. Akers and Kate Marjenhoff; and grandson, Luke Hansen Akers all of Charleston, SC.
