Ashley (Pete) Augustus Chapman of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Columbia, SC, entered into eternal rest Friday, March 28, 2014 after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
Pete was born July 11, 1936 in Norfolk, VA, son of the late Lottie R. Chapman and Ray W. Chapman. The third son of a military family, his childhood was spent in several cities where his father was stationed. His career as a salesman led him to Columbia, SC where he met Judy Wilbanks and together they made their home, returning to Charleston in 2012.
He is survived by his beloved of 29 years, Judith Wilbanks of Charleston, SC; his daughters, Michele Wilbanks of Gainesville, FL and Susan Givens and her husband, Brian, of Summerville, SC; his brother, Ray C. Chapman of Charleston, SC; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Pete was predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Christine Chapman (2012) and his brother and best friend, Howard R. Chapman (1984).
