Dr. Arthur Lee Haisten, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Wanda Lacy Haisten entered into eternal rest Monday, October 15, 2012. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the John Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Arthur was born August 9, 1922 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Lee Ellis Haisten and Mary Blue Haisten. He was the retired Dean Emeritus of The College of Dental Medicine at MUSC. Dr. Haisten completed his undergraduate study from the College of Charleston with a degree in Chemistry, a graduate of the Emory School of Dentistry, Ohio State University with a Degree in Periodontology and held a Master's Degree from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a member of The American College of Dentist, The International College of Dentist, The PSI Omega Fraternity and The OKU Dental Fraternity, past president of the Board of Dental Examiners of SC and member of the Hibernian Society. Arthur's military service included serving in the United States Army during WWII and in Korea served as a Captain in the US Air Force Medical Corps in the Old Tokyo General Hospital, Tokyo, Japan.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Wanda Lacy Haisten of Charleston, SC, and a nephew, James Ellis Haisten of Charlotte, NC.
