Anthony Francis Guzzardo, 91, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, husband of the late Agnes Patricia Meola Guzzardo passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 27, 2015 in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 6:00 pm.
Anthony was born July 11, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Anthony Guzzardo and Ranzie Vatrono Guzzardo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Military Police in Normandy during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. While in Patchogue, NY, he was very active in the VFW and was the Commander of the American Legion. As part of the dedication to the American Legion, he worked with many of the Vietnam veterans after their return. When he moved to South Carolina, he donated his VFW Honor Guard uniform to the VFW on the Isle of Palms. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, and photography was one of his favorite past times. He was a faithful parishioner of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church. He also served as a reserve Sheriff during his time in New York.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Sykes and her husband, Dave, of Isle Of Palms, SC; his seven grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren. Anthony was preceded in death by his son, Richard Anthony Guzzardo
