Anne Sullivan Haynie, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Sumter, South Carolina, and wife of the late Dr. William Ransom Haynie II, died Saturday, September 26, 2026. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Please note, Mrs. Haynie's funeral service will be scheduled in Sumter, SC at a later date. Those arrangements will be handled by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter.

Born in Anderson, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Guy Sullivan and Lucy Sherard Sullivan, she was a graduate of Anderson Girls High School (now T.L. Hanna High School) and the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in Journalism.

In college she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority, served on Panhellenic Council, was secretary of the Women's Student Government Association, member of Mortar Board, and was elected to Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbia and had served as president of the Junior Welfare League of Sumter, The Wilson Hall School Parent-Teacher Association and The Sumter-Clarendon-Lee Medical Alliance.

She served as editor of the first Friends of Swan Lake Gardens newsletter and was a former editor of The South Carolina Medical Alliance newsletter.

Board memberships included Women of the Church at First Presbyterian Church of Sumter, YMCA Board, Friends of the Library, Sumter Historical Society, Sumter Gallery of Art, Les Trente Club, and Sumter Art Association. She also held membership in The Book Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Haynie Cheatham and her husband Deck Cheatham of Monteagle, TN; her son, Mayor James William Haynie and his wife Suzette Combs Haynie of Mount Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren, Sarah Cheatham Oberle (Kyle), Blake Preston Cheatham (Joy), Elizabeth Cheatham McBay (Kyle), William Ransom Haynie, III, and Laura Haynie Huffman (Robert); and three great-grandchildren, August Ann Oberle, Ellis Oberle, and Archer Huffman. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers, John William Sullivan and David Sherard Sullivan.
