Anne Gignilliat Clarke, 80, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, widow of Reverend Philip G. Clarke Jr., passed away peacefully at home Monday, July 27, 2015.
She was born August 20, 1934, the daughter of the late Eunice Dixon Gignilliat and George Warren Trezevant Gignilliat.
Mrs. Clarke attended Converse College, before marrying the Reverend Philip G. Clarke Jr. She was the circulation librarian at Presbyterian College and most recently served as the Executive Director of the Abbeville County (SC) Development Board. She was awarded the Governor's Leadership Award for Rural Development and was instrumental in the development of the South Carolina Heritage Corridor program.
She was a member of The Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivans Island, SC, and a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King. She was also an active member of the SC Huguenot Society, SC Historical Society and SC Native Plant Society.
Mrs. Clarke is survived by her son, Philip G. Clarke III of the Isle of Palms, SC, and daughter Anne Trezevant (Trez) Clarke of Spartanburg, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sarah Ruth Gignilliat Grubbs of Atlanta, GA.
Her burial will be held Friday, July 31, 2015, 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Seneca, SC. A Celebration of Her Life will be held Friday, August 7, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivans Island, SC. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
