Anna Owensby, 26, of San Diego, CA formerly of Greenville, SC entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Her graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery, (Maryville). Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Anna was born March 1, 1990 in Greenville, South Carolina, daughter of the late Martin Jay Owensby and Victoria Gould Owensby. She was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and had been employed as a Graduate Assistant at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) where she helped patent Methods for Identifying Novel Antibiotics and Related Compositions while pursuing biophysical chemistry, spectroscopy, biotechnology, and advanced immunology. At Case Western, Anna received the Hippolyte Gruener Award, Charles F. Mabery Prize, and Ignacio Ocasio Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award in addition to the Ira and Ruth Bressler Prize for outstanding achievement in Judaic Studies. Anna was also an outstanding cellist who had studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music Conservatory. Most importantly, she loved dogs, good food, kind people, and counter culture comedy.
She is survived by her mother, Victoria Gould Owensby of Roanoke, VA and brother, Adam Owensby of Charleston, SC.
