Anna was born on July 13, 1930, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of George D. Phillips and Kalliopi Brouzou Phillips. She was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, member of the Daughters of Penelope Women’s Auxiliary, and founding member of the Velonaki (Little Needles) needlepoint work group. Anna crocheted and donated hundreds of baby blankets to the Neonatal unit of the Medical University of South Carolina.

Anna and Andy were owners of many fine eating establishments in the downtown Charleston area to include Andy’s Hickory House, The Island House Restaurant, Andy’s Hillbilly Chicken, and the Heart of Charleston Hotel Café. Later in life, Anna began her second career working for over 30 years at the Belk’s Department Store in South Windermere. Simultaneously, Anny also began earning her fun money as a Sales Representative with the Avon Corporation, in which she earned several awards including President’s Club for top sales achievement. During her 25 years with Avon, Anna’s customers became her dear friends. When asking Anna about her secret for longevity, her response was having a heaping bowl of chocolate ice cream with Hershey’s Chocolate sauce every night before going to bed.

Anna is survived by her children Leon A. Melissas (Mary Tena) of Atlanta, Georgia, Karen Melissas and George Melissas both of Charleston, SC, Andy Melissas of Atlanta, Georgia, and her Grand Children Andrew, Penelope, Zach, Luke, and Nicole (Kevin) Beaufran.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Melissas, and her sister Rosie Phillips Dursse.
