Anna Elizabeth Mathewes, 37, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 26, 2024. Her memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 71 Broad St., Charleston, SC at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
Anna was born September 24, 1986 in Charleston, SC, daughter of Joanna Lynn Wolf Harper and the late Thomas Louis Mathewes. A local student of the lowcountry, she attended Sullivan's Island Elementary, Laing Middle School and Wando High School, where she was an active member in the marching band and the environmental science club. After high school, Anna attended the University of North Carolina - Asheville. She graduated with a degree in political science and so loved her time in the mountains. Upon graduation, Anna joined AmeriCorps and moved to New York where she taught English to Korean families immigrating to the united States. After her time in New York, Anna joined the food and beverage community in the Charleston area. Throughout her life, Anna enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, music, days at the beach, and trips to the mountains. She will be remembered for the way she loved her friends and family.
She is survived by her mother, Joanna Wolf Harper, and stepfather, Thomas Bailey Harper, MD, both of Mt. Pleasant: siblings, Thomas Mathewes (Haley) of Mt. Pleasant, and Bailey Huthwaite (Peter) of Mt. Pleasant; niece, Mary Virginia "Gigi" Mathewes (age 6) and niece, Harris Harrington Mathewes (age 3). She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted father, Thomas Louis Mathewes, grandparents, Bonnie and Ray Wolf, and Benjamin and Mary Mathewes.
