Anna Britton Leary, 95, of James Island, South Carolina, widow of Wade T. Leary entered into eternal rest Monday, October 24, 2016 with all of her family at her side. Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service Thursday, October 27, 2016 in Bethany United Methodist Church, James Island, 1853 Maybank Highway at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Saint James Churchyard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Anna was born November 2, 1920 in Sumter, South Carolina, daughter of the late David H. Britton, Sr. and Sara Peak Britton Aycock. She was a graduate of Sumter Girl's High School and Winthrop University. Anna was retired from teaching for over 30 years with the Sumter County and James Island Elementary School Systems. She was a lifelong Methodist and an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over 50 years. As long as her health permitted Anna was very active in church teaching, serving on committees and boards. She had also served on United Methodist Women and the telephone prayer chain.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Beth L. Caldwell (Raymond) of James Island, SC; three grandchildren: Billy Moorer (Christie) of Johns Island, SC, Scott L. Moorer (Misty) of Walterboro, SC and Chelsea Meadows (Ryan) of Johns Island, SC; eight great-grandchildren: Andrew Mendes, Celeste Moorer (Michael Purro), Sonny Moorer, Savana Moorer, Caroline Mock, Allison Moorer, McKenzie Moorer and Madison Meadows and great-great-grandson, Michael Moorer; sisters-in-law, Diane Britton and Mavis Britton; nephew, David Britton; and niece, Becky Britton. Anna was predeceased by her two brothers, David H. Britton Jr. and James P. Britton.
Anna always felt so blessed for her long and happy life, for her family and many friends. She was also happy to have lived long enough to see her most precious grandchildren grow up with families of their own and have a part in the beginning lives of her eight great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Sarah and Keisha with Amedysis Hospice and care takers Lauretta and Jackie for their loving kindness and support over the last year.
