Anna Z. Corontzes

December 9, 1932 — January 24, 2011

Anna Z. Corontzes entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2011.  Anna was a real "people" person who always had a smile on her face.  She was a sweet lady who saw the good qualities in everyone and really enjoyed talking to people.


Anna Corontzes was born on December 9, 1932 in Wheeling, WV and raised in Savannah, GA.  She graduated from Savannah High School in 1949 and attended Draughan's Business School.  She worked in the family Dry Cleaner business and also worked for 15 years at National Life Insurance.  For 16 years she was also the church organist at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in Savannah, GA.  Anna was active in many clubs and social events.  She also spent 6 months on a European vacation and always enjoyed social events throughout her life.


In 1965, she married George Nick Corontzes and moved to Charleston, SC.  She spent 30 years as the Agent Cashier in the Fiscal Department at the V.A. Hospital, where she retired.  She was an active member and of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Charleston, SC.  Anna was a lifetime member of the Philoptocos Ladies Society and served as Treasurer and President. 


Anna was preceded in death by her husband, George N. Corontzes and is survived by her children, Nick G. Corontzes and Antonia P. Corontzes of Charleston.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race St., Charleston, SC 29403 or St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, 14 W. Anderson St., Savannah, GA 31401.


Visitation will be at Stuhr's Downtown on Wednesday, January 26th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with the Trisagion Memorial Service at 6:00 pm. 


Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 1:00 pm at The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
