Ann Brown Thigpen, 99, a native of Pensacola, Florida and resident of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023. She was born on April 30, 1924, in Pensacola, Florida, the daughter of the late Clarence J. Brown and Florence Brown. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Captain Francis Y. Thigpen.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Teresa Moran of Warwick, RI; daughter, Babette Konrad and her husband, Bill of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Frank Thigpen and his wife, Laurie of Mt. Pleasant, SC and daughter, Patricia Watson and her husband, Brad of Franklin, TN. She also has nine grandchildren, Melissa Murray, Rebecca Murray, Alison Larson, Katherine Heath, Amy Hennessy, Christy Benson, Drew Thigpen, Annie Lebouton, Patrick Thigpen, and 18 great grandchildren.
Ann lived her life to the fullest. Born in Pensacola, she never lost her love for Pensacola Beach. A dedicated Navy wife, she supported her husband during his Naval career of 31 years. She and Frank were loving parents to their four children. Ann’s love of history and art prompted her to explore all the different facets of their duty stations. She especially enjoyed their three year tour of duty in Naples, Italy. While there, she absorbed the food, languages, art, and cultures of Europe. Following Frank’s retirement and in her fifties, Ann began her pathway as an artist and family historian. Following Frank’s death, Ann continued to excel in these fields. Her lifelong commitment to community service and history prompted her to volunteer weekly at the Pensacola Historical Society for eleven years.
With all of these accomplishments, however, her passion was for her family. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family all benefited from her sense of humor, guidance, inspiration, and love.
We would like to thank our Mother’s companions who provided loving care with such grace and compassion. We are also grateful for the wonderful staff at both The Palms and Oak Harbor Healthcare for their wonderful care and kindness to our family.
