Ann Harling Quattlebaum Blanton, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Dr. John William Blanton, Jr., died Thursday, July 24, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. The family and friends of Mrs. Blanton are invited to attend her Going Home Service on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Fort Johnson Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Blanton was born on April 10, 1931 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Harling Quattlebaum and Edna Rush Quattlebaum. She attended the Medical College of South Carolina School of Nursing and graduated in 1952. Mrs. Blanton practiced nursing with her husband in their office of general practice in Chesnee, South Carolina. She was very active in the Girl's Auxiliary (GAs) at First Baptist Church in Chesnee, Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church in Charleston and Fort Johnson Baptist Church, James Island, SC. She was involved in missions and working with youth at Fort Johnson Baptist Church. She also was part of two mission trips sponsored by Fort Johnson Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choirs at all three churches.
Mrs. Blanton had a great love for her family. She was a loving mother of two daughters and a son, Odessa (Dessie) Blanton Ussery and her husband, Bill of Mount Pleasant, John Blanton and his wife, Wanda of Lavonia, Georgia and Willa Blanton Yost of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She enjoyed being a grandmother of seven: Jillian Ussery, Cameron Yost, Zachary Yost, Suzanne Ussery, William Ussery, and Christopher and Scott Bruce. She loved her grandchildren so much. Mrs. Blanton loved to travel with her husband, family and friends. They traveled through Europe, South America, Australia and throughout the United States.
Mrs. Blanton will be greatly missed by many family and friends however we are so very thankful that she is in Heaven and free of physical disease. We are so happy that we will see her again!
