Anita Rosen Levine passed away on January 7 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years, Sol Levine. She is survived by her 3 children, David (Eve) of Atlanta, GA, Ralph (Charlotte) of Charleston, SC, and Rose (David) Ross of Memphis, TN, 8 grandchildren, Scott Levine, of Orlando, FL, Mandy Levine (Uli Brackenhammer), of Nuremberg, Germany, Eric (Heather) Bahm, of San Francisco, CA, Alison Bahm, of Atlanta, GA, Jason (Melissa) Bloomfield, of Atlanta, GA, Chris Bloomfield, of Oakland, CA, Charles ( Ginger) Levine, of West Point, NY, Jessica (Mosheh) Ben Avraham, of Jerusalem, Israel, and 3 great-grandchildren, Sophie and Max Brackenhammer, and Mollie Bloomfield.
Mrs. Levine was born in Port Chester, NY in 1921 and lived there until her marriage in 1942, when she moved to Charleston, SC. During her life in Charleston Anita was involved in many areas of the community. She served as the Rabbi's secretary at Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue for 30 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a part of the Charleston Hebrew Institute from its inception in 1956. While serving as the synagogue secretary, she also ran the school. She ordered the textbooks, was in charge of the lunch program, and kept the books. Most of all she loved the children. Everyone respected "Miss Anita". Even after she didn't "work" there any more, she spent many hours volunteering at what is now Addlestone Hebrew Academy.
Anita performed in plays at the Dock Street Theater, was a member of the Choral Society and the Wagner Terrace Neighborhood Association. She was an active member of Hadassah, Amit Women, and the BSBI Sisterhood.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside, Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery in Charleston, "Maryville," SC on Sunday, January 9 at 3:30 p.m.
