Angelyn Sloan Avinger, 69, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of John Jeter Avinger, entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 10, 2021. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in Church of the Holy Cross, 2520 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Avenue Charleston, SC. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Angie was born July 8, 1952 in Portsmouth, Virginia, daughter of the late Henry Lee Sloan, Jr. and Mary Shields Justis Sloan. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Psychology. She was the former owner of Shem Creek Bar and Grill, Banana Cabana and One Eyed Parrot.
Angie is survived by her sister, Shields Justis Sloan of Greenville, SC; sister-in-law, Vicki Sloan and niece, Emma Sloan both of Charlotte, NC and honorary daughter, Abigail Cruey of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
She was also preceded in death by her son John "Jay" J. Avinger, Jr. and her brother, Henry Lee Sloan III.
