Amy Ruth Thames White

Amy Ruth Thames White, 96, of Awendaw, South Carolina, wife of the late Lewis Connelly White, Sr. died December 25, 2024. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside, Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Christ Church Cemetery, 2304 Highway 17 North, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Amy was born December 16, 1928 in Awendaw, SC daughter of the late Bige Herbert Thames and Mary Magwood Thames. She graduated from McClellanville High School and worked with her family in her father’s (Mr. B. H. Thames’) establishment, Edgewater Motel and Restaurant in Awendaw. Amy married Lewis C. White in 1950 and together they raised three sons in Mt. Pleasant, Lewis Jr., Ricky, and Winston, before relocating to her husband’s childhood home, The Grove Plantation in Awendaw, SC. She was a long-time member and choir director at Ocean Grove United Methodist Church; where she and her husband donated land and were instrumental in building the new church and parsonage after Hurricane Hugo. 

She is survived by sons, Lewis C. White, Jr. (Maureen) of Awendaw, Richard H. White (Melanie) of Westminster, SC and Winston R. White of Mt. Pleasant, SC ; grandchildren, Lewis C. White, III, (Josie) of Awendaw, Matthew D. White of Awendaw, Emily White Fulmer of Austin, Texas, and Richard A. White (Audrey) of Charleston; great grandchildren, Parker, Cannon, Colt, Brooks and Geneva; sister, Mary T. Rancourt of Awendaw, SC; brother, William L. Thames (Juanita) of Bethera, SC and former daughters-in-law, Nancy White and Debbie S. White, both of Mt. Pleasant.

She was predeceased in death by her brothers, Bryan H. Thames and Robert M. Thames.
