Amelia Veronee Bryan, 96, of Johns Island, SC, widow of Charles B. Bryan, Sr., entered into eternal rest Friday, March 13, 2015. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015, in St. John's Parish Church, 3673 Maybank Highway, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends Friday, March 20, 2015, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Amelia was born March 24, 1918 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Alvin R. Veronee, Sr. and the late Amelia Schirmer Veronee. She grew up on Johns Island, where she was a lifelong member of St. John's Parish Church. Amelia taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also participated in Cursillo, Altar Guild and numerous church women's groups. Amelia graduated from Winthrop College in 1939, earning her BA degree and later attended USC and earned her school librarian certification. Affectionately known by many as "Miss Amelia", she was a retired history teacher and librarian at St. John's High School. She dedicated her life to her Lord, her family and the dairy farm.
She is survived by three sons: Charles B. Bryan, Jr. (Jane) of Charleston, R. Keith Bryan, DVM (Michele) of Johns Island and Philip R. Bryan, Sr. (Mary) of Johns Island; a daughter, Amelia "Meemee" B. Williams of Johns Island; three brothers: Alvin "Bubba" Veronee of Johns Island, Marvin Davis Veronee of West Ashley and William Randolph Veronee of Belgium; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Haynsworth.
