Amalia A. Rivera, 90, of North Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Jesus S. "Jesse" Rivera, died Sunday, April 7, 2019. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 1:00 pm until time of the service.
Amalia was born October 17, 1928 in Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Rosendo Alicea and Fidela Cotto Alicea. She earned a master's degree and enjoyed a career as a psychologist. She also was a gifted photographer and floral designer, and served as a volunteer in the community, teaching English to people whose first language is Spanish.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years; four sons, Jesse Rivera, Jr. of Summerville, SC, George Rivera of Ladson, SC, Jeffrey Rivera of Columbia, SC, and Felix Alberto Rivera of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Amy Wright of Little Rock, AR, and Emily Rivera Sharpe of Jamestown, SC; five sisters, Carmen Alicea, Margarita Alicea, and Pricilla Alicea, all of Puerto Rico; Fela Alicea of Long Island, NY, and Josephine Alicea of Orlando, FL; and 24 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Casimiro Alicea, and her sisters, Elisa Alicea and Angela Alicea.
